what kind of liquid eyeliner do you prefer?

Well I’m guessing this is someone who knows me personally because it is an off-day when I DON’T wear liquid eyeliner.  Or you could be someone who doesn’t know me but is asking due to the sheer number of eyeliner-focused pictures I post but I haven’t posted many lately so the former option is looking more likely.

Back to the point:

I am divided.  My favourite and old stand-by is Rimmel’s Glam’eyes Professional Liquid Liner in Black Glamour.

Pros:  The price is very decent for it’s formula in my opinion and I much prefer an actual ultra-thin brush to a felt tip.  That could be the artist in me talking but I find it gives a much more accurate and controlled line IF you know how to properly use a brush and that takes some technique and practice.  I also find it gives me more choice in thickness than a felt tip.  Back to the formula itself:  I find it’s quite opaque and goes on very smoothly and doesn’t take very long to dry.  It also comes in quite a few other colours if I choose to get creative.  It also doesn’t bleed.  Ever.

Cons:  It isn’t waterproof and as of yet there is not a waterproof version available.  This is a problem for me mainly because I normally bring my line right down to the corner of my eyes THEN wing out (as opposed to some other people choosing to bring their wings up a bit; it all depends on the look you want) and if my eyes ever water from my numerous allergies or laughter or stubbing my goddamned toe, I’m going to have to touch the corners of my eyes up if I am not super-careful wiping said tears away.

My alternate:

L’Oreal Telescopic Explosion Liner in Black

Pros:  Its waterproof, quite smudge-proof and opaque, has a smooth consistency and doesn’t bleed.

Cons:  Felt tip…and not a particularly thin one.  Even with lots of practice under my belt, every time I apply it it takes much longer and is more awkward to get the shape I want because I have to pull my eyelid so it’s completely smooth and I HATE doing that.  If you don’t you run the risk of the felt tip “skipping” over the slightest wrinkle in your skin caused by the pressure of the tip just so you get a smooth line.  This can lead to getting liner where you don’t want it or having to fill in gaps after.  It also is about $23 CAD and only comes in two colours: black and brown.

My suggestion when picking a liquid eyeliner is to choose your tools wisely according to your artistic strengths:  if, when you choose to do anything artistic on paper, do you prefer pencil, marker or brush?  Which feels more natural to you?  What would work more for the shape you want?  After you narrow down which application tool you prefer, figure out your price range, choice of colour, waterproof vs. regular, etc. and then PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE.  I get compliments on my eyeliner all the time and it is NOT something I picked up right away.  I went through three different brands (none of which I remember now) before I found my Rimmel and L’Oreal choices and as it is I plan to switch to gel pots with a separate brush in the near future.

If you have any questions with tips/tricks to application, I’d be happy to answer them too.

I have a friend.  Her name is Courteney.  She is of the internet like me.  This weekend, due to the fact that I pretty much live at her and her roommates’ house on the weekends and said house is sans AC, we decided to have a waterballoon fight.  She threw one at me and yelled “HAMMER!”  I’ve never been happier to take a large water-filled-balloon to the face.

ahem hallelujah hercules, hercules

I currently have a man-friend staying at my house for a few days and he, for whatever reason, feels he needs to time exactly how long it takes for me to do my makeup and hair and then harass me about it the rest of the day.

Every time he opens his mouth my thoughts keep going to the 20 acres of back-woods my father owns and the shovel in my mom’s garage…

STFU about my face and what I choose to do with it or GTFO.
